About Check A Car

Check A Car helps UK drivers and automotive businesses make safer decisions with instant vehicle history reports and AI buyer insights. We turn a UK registration (VRM) into a report covering tax status, MOT status/history, stolen and write‑off markers, outstanding finance, and mileage consistency (availability varies by vehicle/source), then present plain‑English guidance on what matters and what to do next.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to own the UI/UX of our most important surfaces: the “start a check” flow, checkout, and the report experience itself. You’ll make complex vehicle signals easy to understand—without over‑promising—so users can act confidently.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with Product and Design to ship improvements quickly, instrument user journeys, and raise the quality bar on performance, accessibility, and clarity.

We care about trust and comprehension: helping users spot risk markers, understand limitations, and know what to verify next.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience with React and TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of modern CSS (Tailwind CSS preferred)
  • Experience with state management libraries (React Query, Zustand, etc.)
  • Proficiency in building responsive, accessible web applications
  • Experience with REST APIs and async data handling
  • Strong product thinking: you care about conversion, clarity, and reducing user confusion
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team

Nice to have

  • Experience with Next.js (App Router), SSR/ISR and performance profiling
  • Experience designing “trust UI”: uncertainty, caveats, and explainable flags
  • Familiarity with Stripe checkout flows and post‑purchase experiences
  • SEO foundations (structured data, metadata, internal linking)

What You'll Do

  • Build and evolve the report experience: summaries, risk indicators, timelines (e.g. MOT history), and “what to do next”
  • Improve the funnel: VRM input → pricing/checkout → report view, with clear instrumentation and iteration
  • Collaborate with designers to implement high‑quality UI components and maintain a consistent design system
  • Optimize performance (Core Web Vitals) and accessibility across devices
  • Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested code; participate in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Mentor teammates and set frontend engineering standards where it matters

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Fully remote work environment
  • Flexible working hours
  • 25 days paid holiday plus bank holidays
  • Professional development budget
  • Latest MacBook Pro and equipment
  • Health insurance
  • Quarterly team meetups

Compensation

£60,000 - £85,000
